Arbanas's hundredth
Records of the club
/ 19 November
On September 21, 2008, in the match "Sheriff" - "CSCA-Rapid" Constantin Arbanas was marked by good round figure - the Romanian midfielder played his hundredth match for "Sheriff". As you, probably, remember - the jubilee match for the 25-year-old player took place under the pouring rain and finished with his team's victory and spectacular goals scored to opponents (6:2).

Constantin Arbanas put on the yellow-black T-shirt in June 2006, won in it the gold medals of the National Championship for two years in a row, became the Moldova Cup holder in 2008, the Moldova Super Cup holder in 2007. During that time Constantin managed to occupy his own place in the main squad having displayed himself from the best side. Today Arbanas - one of the key figures in Leonid Kuchuk's formations. In the history of FC "Sheriff" there were only 14 players in all in the team who stepped over the boundary of a hundred matches played for the "yellow-blacks". So, Arbanas became also the jubilee fifteenth record-holder. The rewarding ceremony took place on the Main Arena of SC "Sheriff" before the match against "Zimbru" (on the photo). We met with Arbanas and recorded the interview.

Do you remember your first official match for "Sheriff"? How was it passing?
- My first match for "Sheriff" took place in Ternovka against "Tiligul-Tiras". We won that match with the score 2:0. I was accepted by the team very well. It helped me to adapt. That's why the debut was successful. At that time I began at once to get used to what "Sheriff" played in, to the inner life of the team.

Do you remember the first goal for "Sheriff"?
- I have 5 goals scored in all (smiling). It was on the Small Arena of SC "Sheriff" in the match against "CSCA-Rapid". It was very nice goal. I shot on the volley from the distance of 25 metres. The ball flew directly into the top corner of the net. It was the nicest goal in that round.

Can you remember the most successful and unsuccessful moments of your playing for "Sheriff"?
- The biggest joy was when we equalized the score in the match against "Spartak" in the UEFA Champions League. The match took place on the Main Arena and ended in the draw 1:1. We knew "Spartak" was very good team. And the fact that we played successfully against them was very important for us. The most unpleasant moment was in the Commonwealth Cup last year. At that time in the quarterfinal we conceded the goal from "Hazar" on the last added minute. If there weren't that incident, we would have won the tournament.

What was the most important goal that you scored for "Sheriff"?
- All goals were important for us. But, for example, in this season the goal scored to "Dacia" was important.

Do you keep the statistics of the scored goals and matches played for "Sheriff"?
- I think there is no necessity in that. All statistic information about the players is available on the official website of FC "Sheriff "(we were glad - editor's note).

Did you celebrate in some way your hundredth match for the "yellow-blacks"? Is there, in general, a tradition to celebrate such kind of records?
- There is a tradition in Romania to celebrate such kind of records together with the team. But, unfortunately, it happened that after the match against "Zimbru", when I received this prize, I wasn't in a very good mood. We wanted to win but played in the draw 1:1. I just went home but it remained in my memory. Probably, we would celebrate this event during the break in the season.

It's not a secret for anybody that "Sheriff" is a forge for bringing up the football talents. The players grow up professionally, transfer for playing in other championships on the higher level. In what championship at this moment would you like to try your forces?
- I have a real view on things. It's clear that each player would like to play in England, Italy, Spain, etc. But I understand that it's necessary to know your own value and not to be a dreamer. I'd prefer the championship where the power football is propagated. For example, it’s Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland. I understand that I, probably, wouldn't manage to play in the top championship. The main thing for us now is to prepare well for the Commonwealth Cup.

What does it mean for you to play for "Sheriff"?
- First of all, "Sheriff" is a very famous team. Before I came here, they talked a lot about "Sheriff" in Romania. It’s a very big step for me because each player wants to feel what means to win the Championship, the Cup, to play in the UEFA Champions League. And here I have such possibility. I'm glad that I play for the strongest club in Moldova. I think that "Sheriff" deserves more than just to win the Championship of Moldova and Moldova Cups. There came the time for winning something more serious. They still talk about "Sheriff" in Romania, about what was built here, about the attitude to football. I have the possibility to watch Romanian TV-programs and they still talk about the team. It's an honour for me.
