Alexeev’s goal didn’t help
Our players in National Teams
/ 08 September
Qualifying matches for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ took place on weekend. Players of our club also performed for National Teams of some countries.

The National Team of Moldova was defeated by the National Team of Latvia by the score 1-2 in the home match in Tiraspol. Players from “Sheriff” were among the best on the field. Igor Picusciac made his debut in the National Team of Moldova quite successfully. He showed his class in full only after the interval. In the first half time his teammates played more on Frunze who often failed to keep possession of the ball and constantly got into offside positions. And only when the ball was reaching Igor, the play in attack became more sharp. At first, after the cross ball from Alexander Suvorov (one more player from our club performing for FC “Tiraspol” now), Picusciac made the header but the ball hit the cross-bar. Then, after his next shot, defenders swept the ball away from the goal line. What Picusciac didn’t manage to do was successfully done by Sergey Alexeev who was fielded for substitution. After his shot on the volley the ball flew into the goal. And already in five minutes Latvian defenders swept the ball away from the goal line after his header.

Andrey Corneencov played all 90 minutes of the match. And only Stanislav Namasco remained on the substitutes’ bench. Our former players Alexander Epureanu and Victor Golovatenko were also included in the starting line-up, and Igor Cygyrlash (“Shakhtar” Donetsk) was fielded for substitution.
