After completing the Moldova Cup final match against “Nistru” that “Sheriff” won by the score 1:0, practically all accredited journalists were working in the mixed zone. The coaches expressed their point of view on the traditional press conference in spite of the fact that not many reporters attended it.
Leonid Kuchuk, head coach of FC “Sheriff”:
- I sincerely thank the supporters who visited the match. That was the real final. The stadium was full. In my opinion, both teams played good football. We attacked a lot but the opponents defended themselves very well carrying out dangerous counterattacks. I thank my lucky stars that I managed to win that final as a coach and “Sheriff” – as a team. I thank “Nistru” for their strong resistance. Final can not be easy. The level of teams in Moldova has increased and we could see it today.
- What changes will take place in the “Sheriff” line-up during the coming summer close season?
- Nothing is known yet. The close season is very short and it’s no sense to give players away. Probably, we’ll bring up reinforcement but not too great.
- Now the question that doesn’t concern the match. Who will you root on the UEFA Champions League final for?
- I will go to the final. Two of the best European teams meet on it – “Manchester” that plays rapid football and “Chelsea” with its well-organized play. I visited the UEFA Cup match of “Zenit” and understood many things. By the way, today we scored the goal following their patterns. We have to learn, otherwise we’ll be behind the times. When playing against “Spartak”, we were ahead of them by several steps in tactics. Now, two years later, they come up with us. In Moscow we can comprehend new ideas of football. And we will be behind the times more unless we do it. I mean all teams, not only “Sheriff”. There will be more good matches then.
Lilian Popescu, coach of FC “Nistru”:
- He couldn’t arrive because of his private reason (the matter concerns head coach Nikolay Bunya who was absent on the match, noted by the press-cutting service). I think he will join the team soon and we will prepare for the next championship and European Cups together. Let’s finish to talk about it. As to the match, I congratulate “Sheriff” on the winning. I want to thank my players. The third leg was difficult enough for our team. But our guys did all their best and managed to get to the European Cups competitions. I think our team played the final match with dignity. We did our best. We have many injured players, but don’t have enough substitutes like Picusciac and Alexeev in “Sheriff” who can strengthen the play. As well I would like to thank all our fans for their active support.
