Thoughts about the past season
/ 28 May
The post-match press conference of the “Sheriff” and “Tiraspol” head coaches unusually lasted this time for half an hour instead of traditional 5-10 minutes.

The central personage of the press conference became Leonid Kuchuk, the “Sheriff” head coach, who tried to answer questions in detail and more fully.

About the match: it was hard enough today. “Tiraspol” played very well. During all the game I thought of where we could turn the match round. Finally, happened what I imagined. Players realized my directives. Andrei Corneencov impressed especially. He just came back to the club yesterday after the rehabilitation period and today played this magnificent match, one of the best for all the time.

About the record (the championship without defeats): it was the phenomenal result. Initially we entrusted the team with the task to lose none of matches and I was satisfied that it was carried out. I do not know who would be able to repeat that result in Moldova championships. Perhaps, it will take 10 maybe 20 or 30 years. In the last two championships “Sheriff” was beaten only once at all!

About the season: I thank the team for the season, for such result. Not every team, knowing that the championship is won, would be able in every match to find energies and play for winning and result. In this situation it is hard to cast off such useless factors like mood and unwillingness to play. The team has carried out the championship very smoothly so such breakaway from the runner-up takes place. This is a class of the team indeed. Other clubs played not so smoothly. It was hard for us as well due to a lot of injured players. Moreover, “Sheriff” met with losses because of departure of Cocis, Epureanu, Florescu. At first I thought that losses were irreplaceable, but we had the good team each player of which could give a result.

I thank the players, managers of the club, all supporters and press. Whatever would happen, we all are in football and doing common business. Football brings to all of us such pleasure like today’s match.

About widening of the National Division: in the Moldova championship you should occupy yourself not widening of the league but improving an infrastructure and material resources of clubs. If clubs had good fields and dressing-rooms for a start, only then a championship level would change for the better. But that is how it usually happens: at first you play at “Luzhniki” stadium and then, for example, in Kalarashovka where you even can not take a shower normally after a match. Do you imagine how it is hard to set the team in this situation? So, in my opinion, clubs need to improve their material and technical basis and only then to think how to play at such level. This is a difficult process, but you should go towards it.

And generally speaking, these decisions are to be taken in advance, not a month before the next championship. I even can’t imagine how the next season will pass.

About chances to reach the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League: I think we are able to do it. “Sheriff” can defeat any rival like “Spartak”. Last year we just “let Moscowers off”. Well, there were some components helping them a bit. Because they are a Super Club and we are a little Club from Pridnestrovye. “Spartak” has a budget of 70-80 million dollars approximately and we have much less. Or remember “Partisan”. At that time we were lacking in experience in matches against the grand teams. I saw the rival stood. And he shot from 30 meters. Hutan (our goalkeeper) fell asleep on his feet and that was all…

About possible changes in the team: changes will take place. Before the UEFA Champions League, no matter how we want, losses will probably be. Of course, purchases will be as well. Our staff travels around the whole world looking for players. I was personally in one country not long ago. We need two equal players on each position.
