Victor Mihailov: «It turned out to be a real final»
Sheriff FC Head Coach Victor Mihailov on winning the Moldovan Cup final
- It turned out to be a real final. Full of drama—with a missed penalty. And a fantastic result for us. A huge thank you to the fans who came out. And especially to our fans who traveled here. The atmosphere was fantastic. We’re very happy to have won the Cup for the second year in a row.
- When do you think the match was decided—after the first goal or after the penalty kick?
- You have to understand that the Cup is a tournament where one goal is enough to win. In the first half, we built a small lead, and things got easier from there. We had other chances to extend our lead. We have to give credit to Zimbru—they played well.
- Sheriff won the Moldovan Cup and finished second in the league.
- I already said at the pre-match press conference that we don’t distinguish between the Cup and the league; every match is important to us. We managed to win the Cup, but unfortunately, not the league. We’ll prepare for next season.
- Can we say that today’s match marks the beginning of your journey back to your former heights?
- Well, let’s consider this the starting point. God willing, that’s how it will be. The players really did play very well. They showed tremendous desire, and their movement was superb. And, most importantly, they achieved the result.
- How are you feeling? At Sheriff, it often happens that head coaches are fired, and you come in to replace them. Isn’t it psychologically difficult to work under such conditions?
- There’s always pressure in soccer. Especially at our club, which sets the highest goals not only for the season but for every match. It’s not easy for anyone, not just me. But since we work at this club, we’re ready for it.
