FC “Sheriff – FC “Tottenham” 24.10.13
In the third round of the group K in Europa League FC “Sheriff” from Tiraspol hosted on their field the famous FC “Tottenham” from London.
Despite the status of their rival, “Sheriff” showed their desire to achieve a positive result since the first seconds of the match. On the third minute it got very busy in the penalty area of the Englishmen. However, the experienced guests withstood the onslaught of “Sheriff” and created the first dangerous moment at the gate of Tomic which resulted in a goal. Christian Eriksen sent a pass to the penalty area where the center back and “Tottenham” team captain Jan Vertonghen outplayed our players in the air and headed the ball to the gate. In a few minutes “Sheriff” missed their main chance. Luvannor Henrique came head to head with Hugo Lloris, the goalkeeper fell on the grass and it seemed that Luvannor shot at the open goal but Vlad Chiriches saved his team in an unbelievable way. In the middle of the half Kadu sent the ball to the gate of “Tottenham” but one second earlier the referee allowed an offside position.
In the second half “Tottenham” balanced the game, however “Sheriff” was dominating. There was a very disputable episode on 59 minute when rules were broken towards Isa in the penalty area but Jewish referee ignored that moment. In 10 minutes Aaron Lennon sent the ball from the distance but it hit the cross-bar. “Sheriff” continued the attack but the ball did not come to the gate of the guests. On 74 minute “Tottenham” scored an illogical goal. Defoe shot from the distance, the ball rebounded from Marcel Metoua and went exactly to the gate. By the end of the match Ismail Isa came head to head with the goalkeeper again. The Bulgarian decided not to come close and sent the ball to the far corner but he did not make it into the gate.
“Sheriff” showed a worthy game, however they lost by the score 0:2. The rivals of our team in the group “Anji” and “Tromsø” finished their match with the minimal win of “Anji”. Thus, our team takes the third place in the standings having 2 points after three rounds.
